Turbo Engine Project

When Porsche created the 968 Turbo they chose to use the proven 8 valve setup from the 944 turbo. Essentially this created an oversized 944 turbo engine.

Porsche didn't leave a lot of easily available power on the table with the stock 968. Any real gains would require custom part$ and tuning. For that reason you get more bang for your buck by going the turbo route.

1989 944 Turbo S Engine
I acquired a 1989 944 Turbo(S) parts car with the intention of rebuilding/upgrading the engine and putting it in the race car. Even at .5 liter less displacement and half the valves, the 944 (951) turbo engine has the potential to produce much more power than the N/A 968 engine.

I removed the engine from the front clip and disassembled the engine down to the block. The cylinder walls were in excellent condition. The head was freshened and new seals, bearing, gaskets, rings, etc were installed. A Vitesse Racing VFlex Stage 3 Turbo, MAF and piggy back were added along with a Spec Stg3 Clutch, Tial 38mm wastegate, Setrab oil cooler and a host of other things.
